Advertisement and Promtion

This posts is primarily focusing on advertisement and promotion. It highlights just a few ways in which I could potentially advertise my music magazine advert. I have decided to advertise and promote my music advert on a bus stop, billboard and in a magazine as I believe this is where the majority of my target audience will be. For instance an advertisement on a bus stop due to my demographics being BC1 which consists of junior managers etc who are more likely to use public transport as they may not be financially capable of running their own car.

Magazine Advert-The first photo highlights how my music advert would look in a magazine. I decided to place it on the left due to this page being the first one seen my the audience when they turn the page. Similarly if I was to promote my album in a magazine I would ensure that it takes up the whole page as this would likely catch the audience eye keeping them engaged. Due to the interest of the reader being met it would then link to the purpose and aim of the advert as it would begin to promote the album due to the reader wanting to know more such as who the artist is, release dates, twitter page etc. Furthermore as the advert would be placed in a music magazine it would attract a larger target market due to the type of genre being pop. This automatically means that the reader is more than likely to be a music fan due to spending their income on the magazine.

Billboard-Furthermore the second image illustrates how my advert would look like blown up on a billboard. I personally believe billboards are especially effective as the size is an important factor when linking to the interest and engagement of the audience. As it is blown up it automatically catches the audience eye even if the individual does not share an interest in the pop genre. Therefore this immediately allows the identity of the artist to develop and expand due to improvements in recognition. The artists appearance and recognition is a main selling point when advertising as the intended target audience are likely to identify with the artist. Therefore advertisements through the use of billboards can be linked to Andrew Goodwin's theory when relating to personal identity as a particular group or individual may primarily purchase the album due to having a similar relationship with the protagonist.

Bus Stop advert- Lastly the bottom picture portrays a rough idea of what my advert would look like at a bus stop. Like the billboard I believe that having an advert in a built up area on a bus stop is an effective and successful way of promotion due to attracting a large target market from a diverse environment. Having an advert at a bus stop grabs the attention of a wide target market from a range of different ethnic background. Therefore this allows my album to be liked by all cultures. Similarly the majority of bus stop adverts are eye level meaning that individuals may spend as much time as they like viewing the information stated on the advert allowing them to take notes if wanted.

Photos From Filming Internally

Above highlights myself taking photos of my artist inside. All photos are taken inside the new black out rooms due to getting high quality photos with decent lighting. I decided to use this room as it enables the photos to look professional as well as giving all images higher definition. When setting up the lights and other equipment I had to take into consideration many health and safety issues as this was vitally important when ensuring all filming was carried out in a safe manner. Furthermore all images highlight different shots and angles as some of the photos were taken with a tripod and some were free hand to get a more realistic and personal look.

Likewise taking photos in a dark atmosphere can allow the audience to become more engaged and interested due to the atmosphere being dramatic and intense giving it a more surreal approach. Having engaging footage is essential when creating a successful music video as attracting your target audience is vitally important as without the interest the music company would not be able to promote and advertise due to not having sales of the original album.

Furthermore the purpose of carrying out this tasks proves that I took the photos myself without any help or guidance. Therefore it acts as a journey whereby illustrating the process of my filming and how I developed and improved. Getting photos of different positions also highlights how the lights adjusted whereby getting lighter in some areas and darker in others. This is effective when getting different effects due to giving different key lighting on different parts of my artist.

Evaluation 2-How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

One To One Audience Feedback

The above video illustrates how I conducted feedback. This was just one of the methods I used being one to one, however I have done focus groups, questionnaires, surveys etc. I found this form of methodology was effective as it allowed me to focus on quantitative data as all responses were detailed. Therefore this was beneficial when clearly identifying what improvements I had to make as the critisim informed me on exact scenes and shots which needed to be reshot or edited. Likewise as I developed some positive feedback it gave me a boost and confidence when giving me motivation to do well and improve. Furthermore when conducting this segment of my feedback I decided to use someone I was close to as I knew immediately that all their responses would be truthful and straight to the point.

Similarly by using a one to one feedback I gained an understanding that my participant felt more comfortable therefore influencing them to speak more openly whereby giving more information in terms of open-ended questions. Likewise I believe using this form of feedback was effective as it provided a relaxing, less formal environment making the individual feel less self-conscious as they didn’t have to speak in front of a group.

Furthermore as I was interviewing I developed a range of opportunities including being able to observe facial expressions, body language etc which all gave me ideas and feelings when relating to whether or not the candidate is being honest and trustworthy. Likewise the use of these social clues e.g. tone of voice, body language, facial expressions gave me an insight aswell as a lot of information due to verbal answers being the main focus of this task.

Evaluation 3- What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Difficuilties Along The Way

Production Log

Tuesday 18th February 2014
Today I have come in due to study sessions being run in the half term. I thought this was useful due to being able to catch up with any work I am behind on. Similarly it allows me to use the school equipment which I don't have at home such as Indesign and Premier. Today I am aiming to finish my evaluations as my deadline is getting closer. Once these are completed I am going to try and clean up my blog. I will do this by making sure every post is explained as this will inform the examiner why I did certain things.

Album Advert 2nd Draft

This is my 2nd draft of my album advert. Here I have uploaded a rough copy of what my digipak and music magazine could potentially look like. Uploading each draft of my changes highlights my progression and improvement, therefore this is beneficial for the examiner as it allows them to clearly and quickly identify changes emphasising my progression and journey. Whereas if I was to save over my work each time I made an adjustment it wouldn't highlight what I have changed in order to get a better grade.

From uploading my second draft it has allowed me to look into depth on how I have to improve and what changes I could make in order for my digipak or magazine advert to look more visually appealing. From looking at this I have already made particular decisions such as needing to add institutional information, release date, and adapting my middle cover. All these will help me when wanting to achieve an overall higher grade as these are main conventions found on successful digipaks, and adverts.

Music Video 2nd Draft

Music Video HD 2 from Gemma Lovitt on Vimeo.

1st Music Video Draft - Rough Cut

Above highlights my 1st draft when producing my final music video. I first uploaded my music video onto youtube due to not needing the best quality as throughout many shots become blurry and pixelated. For my first draft I was reasonably happy however I knew that I had alot of improvements to make. When watching my first draft I made many decisions when deciding what shots to keep and what not. For example I have decided that the fighting scene can be improved on and changed accordingly. I believe to make my music video more effective I need to link the visuals strongly to lyrics therefore the fighting scene needs to be more up close and personal to illustrate the artists anger and frustration.

Similarly by conducting a first draft was beneficial when getting relevant and constructive feedback. When getting feedback from my class I got many positives however I did get constructive critiscim. I have decided I am going to change the fighting scene, one whole verse, and the holding hand shot due to the footage going out of the camera. Once I have done these improvements hopefully I will be able to pick up a few more marks enabling me to get a better overall grade.
